Photographer Tim Graveson grew up in Inverness, where he lives today. One of his pleasures is hiking through nearby forests of Bay Laurel, oak and Bishop pine and finding hidden places of great mystery and beauty.
"The forest that I walk through every day changes with the light. I hope to share that experience with the viewer.
I am interested in photographic prints that extend beyond the frame. I want to take in a view that is wider than you could ordinarily see from one vantage point. My prints are often composed of several photographs of the same view "stitched" together. Using rolls of paper or Tyvek I can make prints that are larger than the standard framed photograph."
Graveson prints his images using archival, mineral based inks on acid free paper or tyvek.
On the walls hang opened books whose pages have been painted, collaged and drawn upon, offering images instead of the usual text. The work combines painterliness with a spare drawing style and an engagement with the material book itself. Sometimes Morvitz reveals the underlying pages by tearing away the painted surface, emphasizing the tactile quality of the paper and allowing some of the original text to be seen. The artist suggests that while there may be a narrative hidden in most of her work; the images are primary.
The two artists have collaborated on individual pieces as well as large installations focused on books. Their work has been exhibited in California and abroad.
